TIL that whilst Filming the Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland was shunned by the Scarecrow, Tinman and Cowardly Lion due to jealousy. Her only friend on the set was Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch of the West

They doesn’t surprise me sadly

This article is the most horrifying thing I’ve read in a while. I knew that Judy Garland was mistreated, but I had no idea that it was to this extent.

They had her on a diet of chicken soup, black coffee, and eighty cigarettes a day to keep weight. I am absolutely dumbstruck by the level of cruelty this little girl was subjected to.

lemme tell you something about Judy Garland. my dad was born in the 1952. and he remembers the media/political tensions of the time. and just how remarkably kind Garland was.

back in the day, Hollywood stars hated gay fans. hated. denounced them. but the code phrase in WWII for gay men was friend of Dorothy— because Judy Garland said “I love all my fans” when it was pointed out she had some notoriety among LGBTQ+ circles

that “all” was a very, very, VERY rare thing. according to my dad, she was really the first big star to say something like that. she didn’t care she had “outcasts” as fans. she loved all her fans.

she loved all her fans, and was huge on human rights. there’s a sort-of-true-sort-of-legend (as in, trying to get a straight story isn’t going to happen) that Judy Garland’s death and funeral was one of the factors that pushed Stonewall to a riot; the community was already mourning. whether or not it’s true, her daughter says her mom would’ve found the rioting appropriate
